Let me be straight with you.
I’m building something big.
A real business. A real operation. Something that I know can scale.
The foundations are already there. The strategy works. The opportunity is obvious.
What I need now is the right person to come in and help me drive it forward.
Not just run campaigns. Not just tick boxes.
But actually build something that grows.
Someone who takes pride in their work, cares about results, and wants to build something properly.
If you’re the kind of marketer who wants more than just a job, is passionate about what you do, and wants to build something you can look back on and be proud of…
keep reading.
If you’re good at what you do, you’ll feel it quickly here.
You won’t be buried in layers of management. You won’t be stuck waiting for approvals. And you won’t be fighting to get things implemented.
You’ll have the freedom to execute, the tools to do it properly, and a business that actually needs what you bring.
If you want to see your work turn into rankings > leads > real results > revenue
(and actually be recognised for it)…
you’ll get that here.
You’ll be working directly with me, the founder not through layers of management.
The problem is simple:
With transitioning from being a digital marketplace for scrap dealers to building a physical scrapyard from scratch and growing the team, my attention and focus is diluted and I don’t have the time to keep pushing the marketing the way it needs without growing the team.
We’ve got an apprentice who’s been brilliant throughout, but she’s heading to university in August to further develop her career, so I need someone to step in and help me move the business forward.
You’ll look at what we’ve built, spot the gaps, and make improvements that actually move things forward.
- No waiting to be told
- No overthinking everything
- No hiding behind reports
Just ownership. Execution. Results.
If you’re the type of person who looks at a website and instantly starts thinking “this could be better”… keep reading.
If not, this won’t be for you.
Where we’re at
Scrap Local started as a digital marketplace for scrap metal dealers and vehicle recyclers throughout the UK.
We’ve won several awards, built a great reputation and now we run our own Authorised Treatment Facility for scrap cars in Darwen.
Real yard. Real operation. Real customers.
I’ve come from the industry. I’ve worked in it, built systems around it, built the marketing around it since 2007.
Now we’re in a position where the business can scale properly with a physical location.
The long-term goal has always been big:
To build the most recognised brand in the world for anything scrap.
But right now we’re staying local. Building it right. Making it work before we scale.
Alongside ScrapLocal.co.uk we also run:
- Parts Local
- Salvage Local
- Other microsites too
Everything is there. It just needs the right person to help me drive it forward.
What I need from you
You need to understand how to grow a business online.
Not just “do SEO”.
You need to understand:
- Traffic
- Leads
- Conversion
- Customer Journeys
- Workflows
- How it all connects
There are gaps in the site right now:
- Technical issues
- Content opportunities
- Structure problems
- Cannibalisation
Good. That’s your opportunity.
I want you to come in, audit things properly, brainstorm strategies and start plugging the gaps.
You’ll be:
- Improving site structure
- Sorting technical SEO
- Optimising for LLMs
- Strengthening schema
- Driving rankings for the right keywords
- Building and improving content
- Using AI and tools properly, not lazily
- Building authority and backlinks
- Communicating with our audience via the website and email
- Monitoring stats, analytics and other data.
And most importantly, making progress every week.
What this role actually focuses on
Let’s keep it simple.
The core of this role is SEO and AI-led optimisation for long-term growth.
That means:
- Structuring the site properly
- Driving rankings, mentions and discoverability
- Building content that brings in leads
- Turning this into a consistent, scalable traffic engine
That’s the priority.
Alongside that, I expect you to understand how marketing connects end to end.
So yes, email and direct communication are part of this.
- Not in a “send newsletters” way
- In a “how do we turn more leads into customers” way
If you can improve follow ups, tighten messaging, and improve the journey, that’s part of your job.
PPC is not the focus right now.
If you can use it to reduce cost per acquisition, great. That’s a bonus.
But the foundation is SEO and long-term strategy.
Get that right, and everything else becomes easier.
You’ll have support in the first 90days before our apprentice spreads her wings at Uni and you’ll have the opportunity to grow a team later in the year once you demonstrate it’s necessary.
This part matters more than most people think
Traffic is pointless if it doesn’t convert.
So I expect you to think beyond rankings.
Look at:
- What happens when someone lands on the site
- What happens when they enquire
- Where we’re losing them
- What needs fixing
If that means improving messaging, follow ups, simple email flows, tightening the journey, then that’s your job.
You don’t need to be an email specialist.
But if you don’t understand how marketing turns into customers, this isn’t for you.
The kind of person this is for
You’re probably frustrated where you are.
You know what needs doing, but:
- You’re stuck in an agency juggling clients
- You’re stuck in a business that talks but doesn’t execute
- You’re not allocated the correct resources for software, paid subscriptions to tools and bottlenecked with free resources.
- Or you’re just not being pushed hard enough
You care about your work.
You take pride in it.
You don’t clock watch.
You don’t need babysitting.
You don’t make excuses.
You just get on with it.
You have no time for lazy work or low standards.
You’re always thinking how things could be done better.
Who might be attracted to this role
- You're working an agency with a limited number of hours on each account you manage and you want more time to give BETTER results, you don't want more clients.
- You may be freelance and aren't being appreciated by the client for not getting INSTANT results.
- You will be using AI already to accelerate your work load and throughput
- You look at ways to automate things and speed repetitive tasks / processes up
- You think in systems, not just tasks
If any of that sounds like you. That's what we want. Don't overthink it - please apply!
Who this is NOT for
If you:
- Expect to bark orders at a team from day one
- Want to work from home
- Need constant direction
- Care more about hours than output
- Aren’t an IMPLEMENTOR
Don’t apply. This won’t suit you.
What you’ll get from me
If you’re good, I’ll back you.
You’ll have the tools you need.
You’ll have support.
If you can show something adds value, we’ll do it.
- Need a MacBook, fine
- Need software, show me why
- Want to test something new, let’s try it
- Training course? Great!
You’ll work directly with me.
You’ll also get exposure to:
Things that actually improve how you think, perform and behave.
Tools, Software & How We Work
You’ll be working with proper tools, software and subscriptions that actually help you do the job properly.
We use:
- Google Analytics
- Search Console
- Tag Manager
- Ahrefs or SEMrush
- Screaming Frog
- Plus other optimisation tools
If you’ve used these properly, you’ll know how powerful they are.
If you’ve just heard of them, don’t use them and blag it in interview, it will show.
I’m not just interested in people who list tools.
I want someone who uses them to:
- Find problems
- Spot opportunities
- Make improvements
You’ll have access to business AI tools, workflow builders and automations along with anything else that genuinely helps you make/save money, drive efficiencies and makes all of our lives easier.
I don’t penny pinch. If something genuinely improves output or drives results, we’ll invest in it.
Want something that can accelerate, multiply and amplify your work, then show me how and why - it’s yours.
If you understand automation or tools like n8n, make or Zapier, that’s a bonus.
Same with AI. Use it properly and you’ll do well here.
Don’t chase shiny objects for the sake of it. Use tools properly and make them deliver.
The environment
You’ll be based in house at our scrapyard in Darwen.
Upstairs is a quiet office full of screens for focused work by the techies…
Downstairs office is a busy but well-run operation:
- Real calls
- Real customers

Outside is where the machines run, cars get processed, and the real work happens.
It’s a real working yard, so being aware of your surroundings and taking health and safety seriously matters.
We’re a growing team. We look after each other and push each other.
And yes, we’re dog friendly. There are two on site every day. (Bring treats!)
