About Bigg
Bigg is one of Bristol's leading digital marketing agencies, delivering high-performing campaigns across SEO, Paid Media, Content, and Social.
We are a team of around 15 marketers who care about doing great work, building trust with clients, and helping each other grow. Our culture is collaborative, ambitious, and down-to-earth.
The Role
We are looking for a Technical SEO Specialist to own the technical delivery that sits behind our best-performing campaigns, from crawl and indexation through to the tracking that proves the work is paying off.
This is a hands-on, craft-focused role for someone who genuinely enjoys getting under the bonnet of a website. You will work alongside our Head of SEO and the wider delivery team (senior execs, execs, and our Delivery Coordinator), owning the technical work end to end so the whole team can move faster.
To be clear about what this role is and is not:
- It is a deep technical delivery role. Audits, diagnostics, structured data, Core Web Vitals, migrations, GTM builds, and dev collaboration.
- It is not client-facing. Our Client Services team owns client relationships directly.
What You Will Own
Technical audits and diagnostics
- Run full technical audits across crawl management, indexation, site architecture, and internal linking.
- Diagnose crawl and indexation issues from first principles, not just from a tool's default report.
- Turn Search Console, GA4, and crawl data into a prioritised, commercially framed list of fixes.
On-site and structural SEO
- Own structured data and schema across page templates.
- Diagnose and plan remediation for Core Web Vitals and page experience issues.
- Handle JavaScript rendering, crawl budget, and rendered-versus-raw DOM problems.
- Design internal linking improvements at scale to distribute authority to priority pages.
Tracking and measurement
- Build and maintain Google Tag Manager containers from scratch, including tags, triggers, variables, and the data layer.
- Troubleshoot existing containers where tags are not firing, events are double-counting, or triggers are misconfigured, using GTM Preview and Tag Assistant.
- Implement and QA GA4 and Google Ads conversion tracking through GTM so reported performance is accurate.
- Work with our Paid Media team where tracking spans channels.
Migrations and change management
- Plan and QA site migrations end to end: redirect mapping, staging checks, tracking continuity, and post-launch monitoring.
- Brief, scope, and QA technical changes with our in-house developer, so fixes ship correctly and on time.
Insight
- Monitor organic performance and flag technical risks or opportunities early.
- Provide clear, commercially focused insight to the Head of SEO and internal stakeholders.
What We Are Looking For
These are the non-negotiables. If you cannot do the following, this is not the right role:
- 2 to 3+ years of hands-on technical SEO, ideally agency-side.
- Genuine fluency with Screaming Frog (including custom extraction and custom search), Sitebulb, Google Search Console, GA4, and Ahrefs or SEMrush.
- Proven experience building GTM containers from scratch, covering tags, triggers, variables, and the data layer.
- Able to troubleshoot and fix existing containers using GTM Preview and Tag Assistant.
- Solid GA4 and Google Ads conversion tracking knowledge implemented via GTM.
- Comfortable reading and working with HTML and CSS as they relate to technical SEO.
- Able to diagnose indexation, crawl, and rendering issues from first principles, then write a clear brief a developer can act on.
- Able to prioritise fixes by commercial impact, not just volume of issues found.
- A clear communicator who can translate complex technical work into straightforward recommendations for non-technical colleagues.
- Comfortable managing multiple accounts and priorities at once.
Strongly Desirable
You will stand out if you also bring:
- Hands-on experience with Google Consent Mode v2 and integrating it with a CMP such as Cookiebot, CookieYes, or OneTrust.
- A working understanding of how consent affects tag firing, plus UK GDPR and PECR basics.
- Log file analysis.
- Python or scripting for SEO and data tasks.
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React or Next.js from an SEO angle.
- Advanced structured data beyond the basics.
- Experience supporting or mentoring executives on technical matters.
Consent Mode is something we will happily bring you up to speed on if you are already confident in GTM.
